Become an egg donor

Safe and with personal support

Five years after the birth of the first so-called "IVF baby" in 1978, fertility treatments with egg donation were already being carried out. Today's reproductive medicine therefore has decades of experience in this field.

In our experience, women who decide to donate some of their eggs do so after careful consideration and with a sense of responsibility. For example, some donors are already mothers themselves and want women or couples who, due to their medical situation, cannot become pregnant with their own eggs to experience this happiness too.

If you find yourself in this or a similar situation, we are the right people to contact. Everyone involved proceeds with great care and absolute discretion. To create the best possible conditions, we also support you with the organisation (travel, accommodation, etc.).

Necessary preliminary examinations (findings)

In every treatment, the safety and health of everyone involved is always our top priority. Before therapy can begin, we carry out a number of examinations on the donor. Here you will find the findings (subject to change), which are obtained by taking blood samples and analysing them in the laboratory: examinations before treatment begins. These examinations meet our standards, some are required by law, and some are only carried out when the treating physician orders them.

FAQs

What requirements do I have to meet for egg donation in Austria?

An egg donor must be at least 18 years old. The legal age limit is 30 years. A further requirement for egg donation is the physical and mental health of the donor.
→ see also "Requirements & indications"

How safe is the treatment?

It is a long-established and respected medical procedure. In egg donation therapy, the greatest attention is paid to the physical and psychological strain on the donor. The relevant legal framework, laid down by EU directives and national laws, is strictly observed. To retrieve the eggs, the hormonal stimulation of the ovaries is carried out carefully and gently. This ensures that there are no risks of overstimulation beyond the norm.

How does the IVF centre support me during treatment?

During the initial consultation, the therapy plan is agreed together with the treating physician, and the donor receives a comprehensive information package with plenty of practical help. If you have any questions, a personal phone call is of course possible at any time. The donation is unpaid. However, individual compensation for expenses (e.g. travel, time spent on medical appointments, medication costs) is permitted.

What can the recipient find out about me?

Due to the legal situation, egg donation in Austria is not anonymous. However, only the child conceived (from the age of 14) has the associated right to obtain information about the identity of the donor. Anonymity exists between the donor and the recipient. The donor and the couple wishing to have a child have no access to each other's data. Donors are matched on the basis of phenotypic characteristics (e.g. height, weight, hair colour, eye colour, blood group).
