Data protection

Privacy policy (data privacy)

As of: May 2018 (translation – the German version is legally binding)

  1. General

We take the protection of personal data very seriously and strictly comply with the rules of data protection legislation (GDPR, TKG, MedienG, ECG, UGB). The data collected is also protected as well as possible by technical and organisational measures. Personal data is processed only within the company. As a matter of principle, it is not passed on to third parties. Exceptions apply only in the case of medical or legal obligations, or if you have expressly consented to and wish such disclosure.

This statement is intended to give you an overview of how we ensure this protection and what kind of data is collected for what purpose.

  2. Security by Design

Our IT experts and in-house developers make it possible to take the principle of Security by Design (SbD) into account specifically: security functions, access restrictions, automated checks and backups are planned with the utmost care from the very beginning of the development phase and integrated and implemented openly in the basic program architectures. In ongoing review and optimisation processes, we thoroughly check which user data (must) necessarily be collected and stored. As a matter of principle, we do not use cloud services – hosting takes place on the company's own servers (in Europe). Our server operating systems and database systems are always kept up to date in terms of security and technology.

  3. Connection and runtime data

For the early detection of errors, for the optimisation of our websites or for measuring and evaluating our communication campaigns, technical information about the browser/connection is automatically stored in the server log when our websites are accessed, including browser type/version, operating system, IP address of the computer, connection identification, referring page (referrer URL) and date/time.

This data cannot be assigned to specific persons. This data is not combined with other data sources (e.g. any registration data, see 4. Services requiring registration). The data is deleted according to a defined procedure in accordance with the data protection guidelines.

  4. Services requiring registration

If you would like to use the personalised (partly chargeable) offers and services provided on the website (e.g. newsletter, registration for our information events), we must collect additional information from you in order to be able to provide these services properly.

This includes in particular your name, your email address and other information (e.g. place of residence, telephone number). Only with this data is it possible for us, for example, to verify whether you are the legitimate owner of a given email address (to prevent improper registrations), whether we may send you email messages, whether registrations for our events are valid, or that we can properly invoice services ordered.

Depending on the respective service, you can provide us with further data (e.g. age, personal messages) on a voluntary basis as part of registrations (e.g. via corresponding form fields). This information helps us to simplify and speed up processes in communicating with you and in providing our services, and is used by us to design our treatment offers in line with needs, to provide the correct further information and notes, and to maintain contact.

This additional information (e.g. email address) is generally personal data, i.e. data that makes it possible to establish your identity. As a matter of principle, it is not passed on to third parties (cf. 1. General).

In principle, however, the general use of the freely accessible areas/services on our websites does not require such disclosure of your identity.

  5. Cookies

As is customary on websites today, we also use cookies. These serve to make our offer more user-friendly, more effective and more secure. Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer and stored by your browser. You can prevent the use of cookies by changing the settings in your browser accordingly. Please note that in this case some functions of the website will be deactivated and will no longer be available to you. Our cookies do not cause any damage to your computer and do not contain viruses.

  6. Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC ("Google"), Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. Google Analytics uses cookies (see 5. Cookies) that enable monitoring of website use. The information requested by the cookie is determined by Google and transmitted to and stored on its server network (e.g. in the USA). Google will use this information to evaluate your use of the website, to compile reports on website activity for the website operators and to provide other services relating to website use and internet use. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required by law or where third parties process this data on Google's behalf. According to its current statements, Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. By using this website, you consent to the processing of the data collected via your browser or the Google cookie in the manner and for the purpose described above.

  7. Social plugins (e.g. "share buttons")

We would like to expressly point out that social plugins (e.g. Facebook like buttons), upon corresponding user interaction (e.g. clicking), partly transmit user data in the background to the servers of the respective social network (e.g. Facebook). You are aware of this process. Outside our servers, responsibility for data processing then lies with the provider or operator of the respective social network.

  8. Remarketing/retargeting (e.g. Google Display Network)

Remarketing technology is used to present internet users with interest-based advertisements. For this purpose, a cookie is stored in the website visitor's browser (see 5. Cookies), which makes it possible to recognise the visitor on other pages and to present information (including advertisements) on topics relevant to him or her there.

According to its own statements, Google does not collect any personal data in this process. If you nevertheless do not want this function, you can deactivate it via the corresponding settings at http://www.google.com/settings/ads. Alternatively, you can deactivate the use of cookies for interest-based advertising via the Network Advertising Initiative by following the instructions at http://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/opt_out.asp.

  9. Objection to (further) data processing and use

You can revoke your consent to the storage of your personal data and its use for the provision of the respective services at any time. Please note that even after your objection to the use and/or storage of data, we may process your data to the extent necessary for billing purposes.

Furthermore, an objection to further use of data means that you may no longer be able to use the services or that the provision of our services will be discontinued immediately. In this context, your personal data will be deleted and no longer kept in our records.

  10. Right to information

Taking into account the criteria and the regulated procedures in accordance with the data protection directive, you have the right at any time to information about the type and scope of the data stored about you, its origin and its recipients, and the purpose of the storage (see 13. Contact for data protection matters).

  11. Further information

Trust is very important to us. If you have any questions that this privacy policy has not been able to answer, or if you would like more detailed information on any point, please contact our data protection department at any time (see 13. Contact for data protection matters).
